This is a celebration that’s marks the day when king Oyo Nyimba Rukidi the 4th was enthroned at the age of three following the death of his father Patrick Olimi Kaboyo in 1995. However, tradition has it that all kings of Tooro are still living although dead. The celebration is held annually on 7th September at the king’s palace.
This is a time when different clans unite and know each other and also when people especially the youths learn about the Tooro culture. A series of activities such as tree planting, marathon, tree planting, health camps among other can take place in the kingdom ahead of Empango
Traditional rituals among others include, presentation and blessing the royal regalia by the king are also performed at the palace. The king also sounds the royal drum nine times to the tune of amakondere as his subjects jumps high in celebration. The king has is the only person to call off the Empango celebrations because he is the supreme ruler of Tooro.
On this celebration, local artist performs music dance and drama of all type and important people in the government also attend for example the president of Uganda, prime minister or the speaker of the Ugandan parliament to commemorate the king.
