The community Association of Isunga cultural community tours was founded by Mr. Ayebale Thadeus while pursuing Bachelor’s degree in travel and tourism management at Makerere University in 2017, with an aim of uplifting the standards of the people in Isunga community and the surrounding areas who faced a problem of wild animals grazing in their gardens as the natives respond by poaching.

 

When Thadeus Ayebale realized these problems and the knowledge he had acquired, he decided to start up a Community-Based Tourism Organization (CBTO) to educate the natives about the importance of tourism through protecting wildlife and culture.

 

The idea of starting up a community Association was spearheaded by the natural attractions that are found in Isunga community such as the cold springs, crater lakes, and forests for example Kibale forest, unique bird species such as great blue turacos, cardinal wood-pecker, red chested cuckoo, Deidrick cuckoo among others.

 

Therefore, the natives in the community are able to provide Tooro cultural activities such as cuisine, music, dance and drama as they sell local hand crafts to the tourists to earn a living. On top of these, the community organization offers services such as, home stays, camping, nature walks, canoeing, and biking and Boda-Boda adventure among others.

 

Isunga is a village located south of Fort Portal town Kasenda sub-county, Kabarole District in Uganda. The word Isunga comes from the word “Kusuunga” which means watching and this resulted from the natural blessing (natural features) that many have always moved to observe as unique features. The offices of Isunga cultural community are located next to Kibale Conservation Area, Isunga park headquarters.

 

Isunga cultural community tours therefore has come up with different tourism activities and projects to promote tourism as well as improve peoples’ livelihoods of the natives by them being directly involved in different activities.

To be a self-sustaining and strong humanitarian Association with an outstanding tourism services in Uganda.

 

MISSION

To uplift the standards of the natives of Isunga and the surrounding areas by providing employment and other services through capacity building and provision of linkages for their locally available products

 

 

OBJECTIVES

• To promote and conserve Batooro and Bakiga cultures

• To promote culinary and cultural tourism in Uganda

• To conserve the environment through protecting wildlife and planting indigenous trees.

• To create employment opportunities to the local natives, aiming at livelihood sustainability and self-reliance.
