8 days in Isunga community

Overview

This tour will expose you to the most village life, culture, wildlife, freshwater bodies found in and around the Isunga community. You will encounter the traditional music dance and drama, traditional meals, traditional meals, nature walks, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale national park, among others. You will have traditional lunch en route in Kijudde village in Mityana district at Entanda cultural adventure. Therefore, u will be exposed to nature, culture and wildlife as you take part in this safari. The safari will start and end in Entebbe international airport/Kampala the capital city of Uganda.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kampala/Entebbe airport and transfer to fort portal.

Upon arriving at Entebbe international airport/after your breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked by our driver guide who will brief you about your safari in the most authentic destination. He will transfer you to Fort Portal a road trip journey taking 5-6hours as you view Mubende rocks, forests and tea plantation gardens. You will have a stopover in Mityana at Entanda cultural adventure for stretching and Baganda culture experience (traditional meals and dance) and later proceed with the journey. You will check-in for your accommodation as you view the lake, Kibale forest and Rwenzori mountain ranges.

Day 2: Full day Cultural adventures

After a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, you will encounter the Batooro and Bakiga cultures. You will be taught how to prepare and taste the traditional meals for the two tribes and mainly Batooro. This is because its Toro kingdom and Bakiga came as a result of migration from Kabale district in southwestern Uganda. This led to intermarriages between the Batooro and Bakiga. These meals are ‘FERINDA’, ‘OMUKARO’, and ‘OBURO’. These lessons start from the garden and end on the plate.

In the afternoon after tasting and enjoying the meal, you will go through the storytelling of long ago about the ancient Toro kingdom, traditional wear, and customary marriage among others. Late in the evening, enjoy the might Batooro and Bakiga dances and music as they use local instruments like drums, flutes, rattles and much more.

 

Day 3: Visit cold springs and top of the world hiking

Have your packed lunch with you and visit an amazing feature the ‘cold spring’ after breakfast, the water bubbles but cold with a salty taste. It is an amazing experience not to miss while in the Isunga community. After this great experience hiking the top of the world hill where you will have your picnic lunch as you view three crater lakes that are lake Nyamirima, lake Nyinabulitwa and lake Nyabikere in that order. View the Toro palace in Fort Portal town which is 22km from the viewing point, Kazinga channel in Kasese, Hima cement factory, Kibale forest national park, Rwenzori mountain ranges, and much more. This experience can take 6-7 hours and it requires when you’re physically fit for you to hike to the top of the hill.

 

Day 4: Community walk and Canoeing

Visit the community after breakfast, experience the way of life. Different activities take place in different homes such as cooking, fermentation of local brew (local whisky), children playing different games, digging, grazing, and others. Meet the traditional healer and his daily activities. Proceed to the Crater Lake (Lake Nyabikere) for canoeing where local boats and paddles are used for another experience. You will be able to see the hippos that are found in the lake, interact with fishermen, spot different bird species like hamerkop, fish eagle among others, monkeys like Blue monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys and also the olive baboons.

 

Day 5: Crater Lake experience and visit Mahoma falls

Visit more than 30 crater lakes in the nearby area after your breakfast. Kasenda village is well known because it harbors most of the crater lakes in the Toro region. These craters have different characteristics like shape, size color among others. One of the amazing and well-known lakes is L.Nyinabunga which is found on the 20,000UGX note, L. Nyinambuga where Ndali lodge is located, L. Kifuruka among others. You will also visit the Mahoma falls in the same region, it is another point with a unique view.

Note; It is advisable to use a vehicle to be able to visit most of the crater because they are located few kilometres from each other. Walking makes you get tired before covering more than 10 lakes.

 

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking and tea plantation visits.

Head to Kanyanchu information Centre for briefing after your breakfast, which will take 30minutes. Head to the Kibale forest to search for chimpanzees, they share 98% of DNA with humans making them be called our cousins. Trekking takes 2-3 hours depending on the movement of these great primates. You will be allowed to interact with these creatures for only 1hour as you take photos while they are feeding, playing or searching for food. You should know that Kibale national park is well known for harbouring 13 primates such as chimpanzees, Red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys among others. You will have a chance to spot different bird species, animals and tropical trees which are over 100years.

Head back to the lodge after for a hot lunch and in the evening visit tea plantations where the local guide will tell you the stories and the process of tea growing from the nursery bed to the cup. Late in the evening return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 7: Visit the local markets/Port-portal city tour and traditional dances

On this day after breakfast, you will visit the local market where you will experience trade of local produces or head to Fort-portal city tour where you will visit Toro kingdom palace, Toro botanical gardens, Toro golf course, and Karambi royal tombs among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and other massive traditional dances for Batooro and Bakiga.

Day 8: Visit Amabere caves & falls and transfer to Kampala/Entebbe airport

After an early breakfast, visit Amabere Ga’Nyinamwiru caves and Nyakasura falls. Here the story of the Banchwezi dynasty will be told. Hike the Mwegenywa hill to view Lake Saaka, Rwenzori mountain ranges, Fort-portal town among others. Later transfer to Kampala/Entebbe airport to catch up on your next flight hence making the end of the tour.
